The Basement Recovery Project

Recovery Services run for and by People in Recovery.

The Basement Recovery Project (TBRP) is an award winning organisation delivering bespoke recovery solutions, help and advice to people who are struggling with alcohol and/or drugs by people who have been there and experienced it first hand.

Recovery Programme

The TBRP Recovery Programme has been designed by people who have been affected by alcohol and drug issues, with the aim of helping others attain a lifestyle free from addiction, abuse and the fear. The programmes aim is to help you get clean from alcohol and/or drugs and for you to understand more about the nature of the addictive illness. With this understanding you will be able to manage a life free from addiction.

Breakfast Club

TBRP provides twice weekly drop-ins for food to those who are socially excluded or homeless. Many are single, without dependent children, so they come bottom of the housing list. With low confidence and self-esteem, low skills, lack of employment, dependent on drugs and alcohol, poor mental and physical health and insufficient access to appropriate housing, they find it almost impossible to move on with their life.

For people attending The Breakfast Club we also offer advice from housing workers, routes into treatment for alcohol and drug dependency and a befriending service – for some, it is the only support they receive.

Volunteering and Self Help

TBRP has a bespoke volunteer training programme that recognises “everyone is different”. Historically, many of our volunteers are recruited from our service users, and many have gone on to find employment externally and within the project itself.

Through our various programmes, volunteers (who have completed the Recovery Programme) now work as peer mentors to others coming through recovery, supporting our ethos of “the power of example”.

TBRP has developed a Community Champion Programme within the field of addiction services to promote the organisation to professional and public communities to reduce the barriers and stigma faced by our clients amongst the wider general public.

SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery (Self Management And Recovery Training) helps individuals to build up their motivation to change and offers tools and techniques to support recovery.

The SMART recovery 4-point programme consists:

  • Building and maintaining motivation
  • Coping with urges
  • Managing thoughts, feelings and behaviours
  • Living a balanced life

Here and Now Groups

In the groups we are asked to identify our feelings and to share with our peers what is going on for us today. We relate our similar experiences and feelings to each other and thus realise that we are not alone and need not be ashamed. Together, we then help each other plan how to deal with our issues. Groups are facilitated by a Recovery Coach and/or Volunteer.

Community Detox

The Basement Recovery Project Community Detox Centre is a safe, secure practical and supported residential accommodation for people who have been assessed to be low risk and who wish to participate in a physical withdrawal from alcohol or drugs.

All of our staff members are specifically trained for their work in the detoxification centre. The centre has 24/7 support staff and a detox manager as well as a team of volunteers, all of whom, are in recovery from addiction and at some point in their lives have been through a detoxification themselves.

The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. We can’t do that for you but we can help you with every step from there.
