2-DPMP is reported as white or off-white powder. When sold as a legal high, it cost from between £11 and £18 for between 200-500mg. It is likely that related compounds, such as D2PM and diphenylmethylpyrrolidine, will have a similar appearance and cost, but there is limited information at this time to confirm this.

How is 2-DPMP taken?

2-DPMP and related compounds are usually snorted like cocaine or swallowed/’bombed’ in wraps of paper.

Anecdotal information suggests that using 10mg or more of 2-DPMP should be considered as harmful in humans.

What are the effects of 2-DPMP and related compounds?

There has been limited research of 2-DPMP, but the studies that have been carried out indicate that it is a very potent amphetamine-type stimulant. 2-DPMP is a long-lasting drug, capable of causing severe agitation, which can last for several days after a single dose.

Taking 2-DPMP or related compounds can induce:

• Feelings of euphoria, alertness, talkativeness and feelings of empathy.
• Chest pains, anxiety, insomnia, severe agitation, hallucinations and paranoia.

What are the risks of 2-DPMP and related compounds?

Taking any drug involve risks. As well as damaging your health, you can damage the relationships you have with your family, friends, school or employer; and so can damage your lifestyle.

Here’s what else 2-DPMP and the related compounds could do to you:

• It can cause mood swings and feelings of anxiety, aggression and paranoia.
• It can be toxic to the brain, causing overstimulation of the nervous system, with agitation and hallucinations, or causing fits.
• It can cause overstimulation of the heart; and there are reports of altered blood pressure.
• Potentially dangerous rises in body temperature have been noted and there may be a risk of kidney failure.
• You could end up in hospital or worse. As of October 2011, 3 deaths had been linked to the use of 2-DPMP.

2-DPMP and alcohol

Mixing 2-DPMP or related compounds with alcohol can have serious consequences – the effects interact and you may be less in control of yourself and the situation, making things much riskier.

When you buy 2-DPMP or related compounds, you can never be sure that it hasn’t been cut with something else.

Can you get addicted to 2-DPMP or the related compounds?

There is little direct information about 2-DPMP and related compounds. But as it is similar to amphetamines, it is very likely that regular use can become compulsive and can create a state of psychological and physical dependence.

2-DPMP, related compounds and the law

• 2-DPMP and related compounds D2PM and diphenylmethylpyrrolidine are now Class B drugs which means that they are illegal to have for yourself, give away or sell.
• Possession of a Class B drug can get you up to five years in prison and/or an unlimited fine.
• Supplying someone else, even your friends, can get you 14 years in jail and/or an unlimited fine.
