6 – Getting Help
Remember, “stopping” is not “cure.” Enrol in a self-help programme or another source of help as a way to start your new life.
Help for staying sober can come from:
Others in recovery
Recovery coaches
Drug and alcohol support workers
Aftercare workers
Employment support workers
Housing workers
Mental health workers
How do I know when I am in recovery?
Here are six signs:
I can address problems as they happen, without using drugs or alcohol, and without getting stressed out.
I have at least one person I can be completely honest with.
I have personal boundaries and know which issues are mine and which ones belong to other people.
I take the time to restore my energy – physical and emotional – when I am tired.
I know where to turn when I need further help and support
I have not taken a drink or drug today
